It's partly the story of his misadventures in Hollywood working on abortive major studio options of his first two pieces. It's somewhat the touching tale of his developing romance with Sara, the woman who will become his wife. But it's mostly a daring expose of the only topic more taboo than the details of one's sex life: personal finances.

Working on a spare set in front of creative tax-form and scenic video projections by Flying Moose Pictures Mark Leialoha and Jonathan Luskin , Kornbluth plunges into a story of nightmarish tax problems. It starts with his impulsive decision to become a responsible taxpayer after years of not filing, and -- through ignorance, inattention and naive trust in his hotshot, tax lawyer-cum-therapist -- develops into a tax, penalties and interest bill so enormous that it threatens the ownership of his film and his ability to marry Sara before the birth of their child.

What emerges over the course of two hours with intermission is a financial coming-of-age story told with an eager, boyish ingenuousness that makes it as captivating as it is unceasingly funny. Stocky and balding, Kornbluth peers through his wire-rims with candid vulnerability, his energetic delivery conveying the urgency of the situation.

As directed by Dower, the story is rich in comic digressions and minor details that add to its texture and reward careful attention.

In his best discursive style, Kornbluth is planting seeds that will blossom at key moments later. Dower keeps the monologue crisp, fluid and focused, supporting Kornbluth's tone with unobtrusive lighting effects by Jim Cave and apt musical passages by Marco d'Ambrosio one of Kornbluth's digressions involves the unforeseen medical side effects of oboe-playing.

A surprising new cross-generational duo is born with the pair-up of Zac Efron and Robert De Niro in Dirty Grandpa Lionsgate Home Enertainment , a riotously raunchy road-trip comedy about an uptight young lawyer tricked into taking his grandpa along on a spring-break trek.
